Good questions

Everything people ask before their first evening. Can't find yours? Ask on the contact page and we'll reply personally.

Booking

How much does it cost?

$65 a seat. That covers a reserved room, your host, name and match cards, twelve conversations and your matches by email. Drinks are at bar prices.

Can I bring a friend?

Yes. Book two seats at the same evening. You won't be seated together, but you'll have someone to debrief with at the interval.

Which age bracket should I pick?

The bracket your age falls in. Brackets overlap, so if you're 30 you can choose 22–30 or 28–38. Please stay within your bracket so the room works for everyone.

Do I need an account?

You'll get one automatically when you book, using your email. There's no password: we email you a sign-in link whenever you want to see your bookings or update your profile.

On the night

What should I wear?

Whatever you'd wear to drinks with a friend. Comfortable beats impressive.

Do I have to drink alcohol?

Not at all. Every venue has good non-alcoholic options and nobody will ask.

What if I know someone there?

Tell the host when you arrive and we'll skip that conversation. You'll have a few extra minutes at the bar.

How long does it go for?

About two hours. Arrive fifteen minutes before the start time, conversations begin shortly after, and cards go in around the two-hour mark. Stay and mingle afterwards if you like.

Is the venue accessible?

Your booking email lists step-free access, the nearest accessible toilet and seating details. If you need anything else, reply to your booking email and we'll sort it before the night.

Matches and privacy

How do matches work?

At the end of the night you tick the seats you'd like to see again. If someone you ticked also ticked you, you both get an email at 9am the next morning with each other's first name and email address.

Will anyone get my phone number?

No. We never share phone numbers. A match only shares a first name and email, and only when it's mutual.

What if I don't match anyone?

Nothing is shared and nobody knows. You've still had twelve real conversations and a good night out.

Safety

What's the code of conduct?

Be kind, be respectful, take no for an answer, and keep your phone away. Anyone who makes another guest uncomfortable is asked to leave and isn't invited back.

What if someone makes me uncomfortable?

Tell the host at any point, quietly or by catching their eye. You don't need to explain. They'll step in, and you can also report it afterwards through the contact page.

Refunds and changes

Can I get a refund?

Yes. Cancel any time before the evening and the full amount goes back to your card automatically, from the link in your booking email or your account page.

What happens if the numbers are uneven?

Each side has twelve seats. If it's uneven on the night because of a late cancellation, the extra guests get a free seat at their next evening.

What if an evening is cancelled?

You get a full refund automatically, or you can choose another evening.

Other cities

Are you coming to Melbourne, Brisbane or New Zealand?

Yes. Melbourne, Brisbane, Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch are next. Leave your details on the contact page and you'll hear when your city opens.

Are there LGBTQ+ evenings?

They're planned. Tell us on the contact page and we'll let you know when the first one opens.
