Terms and conditions
The deal, in plain English. Book a seat and these are the terms you're agreeing to. The short version: be kind, cancel any time before the evening for a full refund, and only mutual matches get shared.
Who we are
Oh Hi Speed Dating Sydney (“Oh Hi”, “we”, “us”) runs hosted speed dating evenings in Sydney, New South Wales. This website is speeddatingsydney.com.
We're easiest to reach through the contact page, or by replying to any email we've sent you. We reply by email, usually within a day.
Who can come
- You're 18 or over. Every evening is at a licensed venue.
- You're single. Not separated-but-still-living-together, not “it's complicated”. Single.
- You're in the evening's age bracket. Our brackets (22–30, 28–38, 32–45, 45–60, 55+, and 25–45 at the LGBTQ+ night) overlap on purpose, so pick the one your age falls in. If you're well outside it, we may move you to a better-suited evening or refund you.
- You agree to the code of conduct. It's ten lines long and it's the reason the evenings work.
Bring photo ID. The venue may ask for it at the bar.
Booking your seat
Seats are sold through Humanitix and Eventbrite. When you check out, their terms and privacy policy cover the purchase itself: the payment, the booking fee and your ticket. These terms cover the evening.
- At women-and-men evenings you choose a women's seat or a men's seat. Each side has twelve. At LGBTQ+ evenings there's one open room and one kind of seat.
- Your ticket confirmation comes from the platform you booked on. The venue address comes from us, by email, after you book and again the day before.
- Booking for a friend? Fine, as long as they're in the bracket and taking the right seat. They agree to these terms too.
Prices and booking fees
Every evening has three prices, all on sale at once: Early bird $45, Standard $55 and Last seats $65. Each tier has a limited number of seats. When a tier is gone, it's gone, and the next one up is what's left. It's the same evening and the same seat whatever you paid.
Prices are in Australian dollars. The ticketing platform adds a booking fee, shown at checkout before you pay. Drinks and food aren't included; they're at bar prices, and nobody has to drink alcohol.
Cancelling and refunds
Cancel any time before the evening starts and you get a full refund. No reason needed. Booked on Humanitix? Cancel from your order email and the refund is automatic. Booked on Eventbrite? Request it through Eventbrite up to the day before; on the day itself, message us and we'll refund it by hand.
If we cancel or reschedule an evening, you get everything back, booking fee included, or a seat at another evening if you'd rather. Once an evening has started, a seat you didn't use can't be refunded. The details are on the refund policy.
Passing your seat to a friend
Can't make it? A friend can take your seat if they're in the same age bracket and, at women-and-men evenings, taking the same side of the room. Email us their first name before the evening and we'll put it on the list. Seats can't move to a different evening, but you can cancel for a refund and book the other one.
On the night
- Arrive fifteen minutes before the start time. Conversations begin on time. If you're running late, we'll seat you at the next bell, but we can't rerun the rounds you missed.
- Phones stay away during conversations.
- The venue's rules apply, including the responsible service of alcohol. Bar staff and your host can refuse service.
- If the numbers are uneven on the night because of a late cancellation, the guests without a full set of conversations get a free seat at their next evening.
- Your host can ask anyone who breaks the code of conduct, or who's too drunk to take part, to leave. That seat isn't refunded, and they won't be invited back.
How matches work
At the end of the evening you tick the people you'd like to see again. If someone you ticked also ticked you, you both get each other's first name and email at 9am the next morning. That's all we share, and only when it's mutual. We never share a phone number.
We don't run background checks on guests, and we can't promise a match. What happens after an introduction is between the two of you. Our safety page has a few sensible habits for a first date.
Photos and filming
We never photograph a guest without asking first, and a no is final. Guests can't photograph, film or record other guests at all. Any photos we share of an evening are of the room, the details, or guests who said yes in writing.
Changes to an evening
Sometimes a venue changes or a start time shifts. If we change anything that matters, we'll email you, and if the new plan doesn't suit, you get a full refund. Evenings stay on weeknights after work, starting at 6:30pm or later.
Liability
We put real care into every evening, but a good night depends on the people in the room too. As far as the law allows, our liability to you for an evening is limited to what you paid for your seat. We aren't responsible for what guests do after an evening ends.
Nothing here takes away your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. If a guarantee there applies, it applies in full.
