LGBTQ+ speed dating in Sydney
Gay, lesbian, bi, trans, non-binary and queer singles, one open room, twelve six-minute conversations and a host keeping time. No sides to pick, no apps, and you tick “date” or “friend” for anyone you'd like to see again.
What is Oh Hi's LGBTQ+ speed dating night?
It's a hosted speed dating evening for the queer community, run on the same weeknight format as every Oh Hi night but with one difference: there are no women's or men's sides. Everyone sits in one open room of up to 24guests, gets a seat letter instead of a side, and has twelve six-minute conversations in turn. Then there's a mingle, and mutual “date” or “friend” matches get each other's first name and email at 9am the next morning. The next one is Tuesday 8 December 2026, 7pm to 9pm, in Newtown, for ages 25–45.
The next LGBTQ+ night
How the open room works
Seat letters, not sides
On arrival you get a name card, a match card and a letter, A or B. The As stay seated and the Bs move one table along at each bell. Nobody picks a side when they book, and nobody is asked their gender.
Twelve conversations
Six minutes each, with a minute between to change seats and jot a note. A short interval at halfway. Your host rings the bell and keeps everything moving, so you never have to end a conversation yourself.
Date or friend
For each person you meet you tick "date", "friend" or leave it blank. Mutual ticks are a match. Nobody sees anyone's card, and non-matches are never told.
Matches by morning
At 9am the next day, mutual matches get each other's first name and email. That's all we share. What happens next is up to the two of you.
Who it's for
Anyone in the LGBTQ+ community who is single and would rather meet people in a room than on a screen: gay, lesbian, bi, pan, trans, non-binary and queer. One age bracket per night so the room is people at a similar point in life, 25–45 for the Newtown night. Come on your own; most people do, and the format is built for it.
Sydney's queer nightlife is clustered around Newtown, Enmore and Oxford Street, so that's where we start. The exact venue is a reserved area at a bar near the station, emailed to ticket holders a week before the evening (by Tue 1 Dec for the next one), and it's always somewhere you can hear each other.

- A host in the room from arrival to goodnight, who you can speak to at any point.
- One code of conduct for every Oh Hi night. Break it and the host asks you to leave, no refund.
- Nothing is shared except first names and emails between mutual matches. Nobody sees your card.
- Photo ID, because it's a licensed venue. Your name card is whatever you ask the host to write.
- Something wrong? Tell the host, or report it afterwards. Our safety page explains what we do.
- Full refund if you cancel any time before the evening. Refund policy.

Questions about queer nights
Is there gay speed dating in Sydney?
Yes. Oh Hi runs hosted LGBTQ+ speed dating nights in Sydney for gay, lesbian, bi, trans, non-binary and queer singles. The next one is Tuesday 8 December 2026 in Newtown, ages 25–45. It's one open room with no women's or men's sides, twelve six-minute conversations and a mingle afterwards.
Is lesbian speed dating in Sydney a separate night?
Not at the moment. Our LGBTQ+ nights are one open room for everyone across the queer community, and you tick "date" or "friend" for each person you meet. If a women-only or men-only night is what you want, register interest below and we'll run one when there are enough people for a full room.
How does an open room work?
Everyone gets a seat letter, A or B, instead of a side. The As stay seated and the Bs move one table along at each bell, so over the evening you meet everyone in the other letter. There's nothing to pick when you book: the letters are handed out on the night.
What if I'm trans or non-binary?
You're welcome, and nothing on the booking form asks you to pick a side or a gender. The seat letters are the only sorting that happens, and they're random. Tell the host your name and pronouns on arrival if you'd like them on your card.
What does it cost?
Seats are $45 early bird to $65 for the last few, plus a small booking fee. Drinks are at bar prices and nobody has to drink alcohol. Cancel any time before the evening for a full refund.
Can I bring a friend?
Yes. Two seats at the LGBTQ+ evening at $45 each, booked together on Eventbrite. You'll be in different letters, so you won't be sat opposite each other, but you'll both be in the same room.
Want a women-only, men-only or different-age queer night? Register interest and we'll email you when one opens. Nothing else, no spam.
