Nerves are normal, and they mean you care. Everyone in the room feels them, including the people who look relaxed.
Before the night
- Pick two or three questions you'd genuinely like answered. Our first questions guide has plenty.
- Eat something beforehand so the first drink doesn't do all the talking.
- Wear something you've worn before and feel good in.
- Plan how you're getting home, so it's one less thing to think about.
When you walk in
- Find the host first. Their job is to introduce you to someone.
- Get a drink and hold it. It gives your hands something to do.
- Say hello to whoever's next to you. They're as nervous as you are.
During each conversation
- Ask, then ask one follow-up. That second question is where people relax.
- Don't try to be impressive. Try to be curious.
- If a conversation isn't working, it's only six minutes. Be kind and enjoy the next one.
Afterwards
Tick anyone you'd like a second conversation with, not just people you're sure about. A second date is just another conversation.
Meet someone first. Oh Hi runs hosted speed dating evenings around Sydney: twelve six-minute conversations, an even room, and matches by morning. See November dates.
